Sedating Ourselves with Safety

Weekly Leadership Insights with Jake Luehrs

ONE QUESTION

Are you more interested in being ‘special’ than you are happy?

ONE THING TO PONDER

Lifestyle inflation sabotages the very financial freedom that we seek.

ONE PERSPECTIVE

We’ve mistaken emotional discomfort for actual danger.

We play it safe, stay comfortable, and call it “wisdom.”

But comfort has become the silent killer of fulfillment.

Our survival instincts have become success stoppers — wet blankets smothering the fire that makes us feel alive.

Our brains still think we’re running from tigers — but now, the “danger” is being judged, rejected, or failing in public.

But our safety in most cases is simply not at risk.

Survival instincts are meant to keep us alive, not to fabricate a story that being judged or failing is dangerous.

We’re not dying from danger…we’re dying from disconnection, doubt, and hesitation.

We don’t need to survive anymore.

We need to come alive.

The real question to ask:

Is the fear we feel real or just a neatly packaged lie that keeps us comfortable and safe, as a justification not to try?

We're not surviving, we're slowly burying the very things that make us feel alive - to take chances on meaningful things, to go for things that are important.

It's amazing how capable we are of doing great things. And then our mind gets a hold of possibility and creates a shitshow of doubt, fear, and justification to pull back.

When we lack belief in ourselves, we fly well below our potential and eventually sabotage the very purpose we were put on this earth.

The Path Forward

Belief in what is possible is a feeling, not an affirmation. You can't fake your way into believing, it has to be anchored.

The automatic thoughts and beliefs we hold are often uncontested.

And when we don’t contest them, we start creating stories that make us feel better about living below our potential.

Our automatic thoughts aren’t true — they’re old patterns, tattooed to protect an outdated version of ourselves.

And unless we challenge them, they’ll keep us stuck.

People justify living far below their potential to protect themselves, to avoid failing in public, to feel safe.

All of those things are simply ensuring a slow death.

Many people are walking around with one foot in the grave, they just haven’t made it official.

Safety might keep us alive, but courage allows us to feel alive.

Where is comfort robbing you of your potential?

You can hide, put on a facade, act like comfort isn’t stealing from you, but only you know your truth…step into it and you’ll ensure that regret isn’t waiting for you when you no longer have the option!

Onward and Upward!

PS - Share this with anyone you can think of that has done great things but may be struggling!
