Impatience, The Thief We Celebrate

Weekly Leadership Insights with Jake Luehrs

ONE QUESTION

Who are you blaming your life on today?

ONE THING TO PONDER

Strive for authenticity, not flawlessness.

ONE PERSPECTIVE

Impatience isn't a flex—it's laziness disguised as ambition.

High drivers and impatient people....

I see you. I was you!

I wore my impatience like a trophy. I thought it proved I worked harder and faster than everyone else.

I was wrong! And at times, still am.

For years, I rushed conversations. Interrupted. Demanded faster results.

I mistakenly labeled it "high standards." Called it being "driven." Assuming it was "leadership."

We wear impatience as a badge of honor, never realizing it's a thief quietly stealing our peace.

We confuse patience with a lack of action, avoidance or a lack of speed. That's just not true.

We've confused patience with weakness.

As if being patient means you're slow. Passive. Soft. Accepting mediocrity.

That's bullshit.

Real patience is:

Moving fast without being chaotic.

Pushing people toward potential without breaking them.

We can model urgency without creating a crisis.

Being calm in our power instead of frantic in our fear.

If we walk around bragging about how we have little patience, understand that we're not just making other people miserable, we're experiencing some unnecessary turmoil ourselves.

We can't be impatient AND at peace.

We can't be impatient AND creative.

We can't be impatient AND truly productive.

Impatience is anxiety with a work ethic.

It's fear dressed up as standards. We don’t want to admit it, but truthfully fear rides shotgun with our lack of patience.

We misinterpret urgency as crisis.

I believe it’s important to stop confusing chaos with momentum.

Patience...It's the place where you can operate calmly and productively.

It's a place to move methodically and creatively.

The strongest leaders aren't the loudest or the fastest—they're the ones who know how to move with precision, clarity, and control.

I'll see you along the way!

Onward and upward!
