Burnout, Breakthroughs & Brutal Truths

Weekly Leadership Insights with Jake Luehrs

ONE QUESTION

Step 1: What is better than money?

Step 2: List those things out.

Step 3: Now, how many of those things are you sacrificing just to make another dollar?

ONE THING TO PONDER

The bravest thing you can do is to stop gripping life so tightly.

ONE PERSPECTIVE

20 lessons from the first 180 days of 2025. Enjoy!

  1. The bigger the demon, the better the story. The things we overcome provide far more wisdom to live a full life!

  1. I don’t know many happy victims.

  1. It’s not ok to wish things were different over and over without taking action to improve or change yourself. That is simply an addiction to gain sympathy from others and being a victim.

  1. If you don’t love yourself, nothing else matters.
If you love yourself, nothing else matters.

  2. If you’re going to live authentically, you’re going to have to disappoint people. Authenticity requires courage to stand up and disagree. As soon as you fold, your identity will follow.

  1. Don’t wait for things to be perfect to be happy.

  1. Your evolution starts in the mirror, not through the window.

  1. Our comfort zone will often lead us to the danger zone. If our priority is comfort, our progress will be limited at best. Stagnation breeds a lack of options over time.

  1. If fear of being judged is my guide, being inauthentic will be my path.

  1. It’s ok to be broken. Part of the human experience seems to be that everyone is broken at one time or another in their lifetime. And there are multiple paths one can take from that brokenness, we get to choose:

    1. We can resist and fight it, we can avoid and run from it. We can create extravagant stories for all the reasons we won’t face it, yet that brokenness has far more endurance than your resistance does.

    2. I can accept it, look at it, and allow it to be what it is right now. The only productive path is through.

  1. Many times, our judgment of others is simply a protection mechanism to make ourselves feel better.

  1. I’ve cultivated unhappiness by trying to conform to an image.

  1. Trust God because he already has a great story waiting for you. And that story is predicated on my ability to listen to him and have courage and energy to follow it.

  1. If you want to experience peace, let go of the expectations others put on you without your permission.

  1. My power and impact lie in my calmness

My peace and happiness lie in my perspective

My progress lies in my resilience, not my speed

  2. It’s normal to struggle. To struggle isn’t unique, it’s the teacher.

  1. Your dreams die the moment you choose comfort over action.

  1. Entitlement creates more pain than it prevents.

  1. A lack of patience is nothing more than a present moment frustration.

  1. Setting goals we aren’t truly committed to become a source of guilt rather than growth.

I would like to ask for a favor. Your perspective matters. Which one of these felt personal to you? Hit reply and give me the number!!

BOOK RECOMMENDATION

The Infinite Game
by Simon Sinek

This book completely shifted how I see leadership and long-term success. In a world obsessed with winning, this book reminded me that the real goal isn’t to beat others—it’s to stay in the game and lead with purpose. I’d highly recommend this read for anyone playing the long game in business, leadership, or life.
