Authenticity - On the Verge of Extinction?

Weekly Leadership Insights with Jake Luehrs

ONE QUESTION

If your soul had a business model, what would it be?

ONE THING TO PONDER

Most people are emotional children in adult bodies. When they don’t feel good, they immediately look to what will make them feel better vs working through the discomfort to grow.

ONE PERSPECTIVE

We've built a world rich in facades and poor in genuine connection.

Where there is a lack of authenticity and an oversupply of agendas.

Everyone's selling something, but few are being real.

Here is what I’ve learned, when we are truly being ourselves, we’ll actually be surrounded by people that truly value who we are vs who we’re pretending to be.

I get it, it’s more painful to be judged for who we truly are than it is to be judged as someone we’re ‘trying to be’. But here's the thing—you're getting judged either way.

In a world that is highly filtered, in the photos that we share, in the words we use, in hiding behind keyboards, authenticity is now abnormal.

Many times it’s based on a lack of self worth.

It’s interesting that the people that stand out are typically the most vulnerable and authentic ones. The ones that are real, not just focused on being right or performing.

The Plot Twist Nobody Talks About

Scarcity creates value. And right now, transparency and authenticity are rare enough to be precious.

I’m not so sure that using our struggles as an excuse to hide and protect ourselves from judgment is the right direction.

We can, however, use those struggles as a source of connectedness with others that helps create a path forward.

What if we used those challenges as a tonic to spur growth and real relationships with others, rather than a source to gain attention.

So What is the Path Forward?  Simple, not Easy.

Ruthless Awareness.

A lack of true awareness is at an all time high.

We're living in peak hypocrisy—thinking good intentions excuse bad patterns.

That's just a sophisticated way of avoiding being seen. That only puts a mask on to avoid the pain of being seen.

If everyone you're trying to impress disappeared tomorrow, what would you immediately stop doing?

It’s commitment to the truth, not your preferences.

Discomfort causes us to distort the truth. I catch myself daily preferring to see things my way while arguing the truth. This is a practice, not a one time event.

The common denominator here is ourselves.

What pattern keeps showing up in your life that you keep calling "bad luck" or "other people's fault"?

Courage to be YOU.

Your authentic self isn't just nice to have - it's exactly what's missing from the world.

How much energy goes to being likeable that could go toward being useful?

Final Thoughts

To be yourself, you may have to let go of some things.

You may have to let go of people that have been in your world for a long time.

You may have to let go of the identity that you’ve falsely created in order to be the real version of yourself.

You may have to let go of the stories and patterns you’ve always used to keep yourself safe.

The path is letting go.

Scary? You bet.

Worth it? HELL YES.

20 seconds of courage is all that it takes to avoid a lifetime of regret.

I’ll see you along the way.

Onward and upward!

Judge Frank Caprio’s Final Interview

Ed Mylett Podcast

I enjoyed the clips I saw of the compassion that Judge Frank Caprio showed to others. He saw them as humans, used common sense and grace if giving people a chance. Bottom line, this is a human podcast…one that was done from a man that was dying. Well worth the listen.
