ONE QUESTION

Are you sacrificing the thing you want for the thing you believe will get it?

Ex. sacrificing happiness now in order to gain success so you eventually can be happy?

ONE THING TO PONDER

Love isn’t the absence of truth, in fact being truthful could suggest we care enough to be honest.

Compassion isn’t the absence of standards.

Both can be true at the same time.

ONE PERSPECTIVE

Every person I deeply respect has one thing in common…..

They’ve had a reckoning in their life.

They’ve been broken at one time or another.…financially, physically, relationally, or all of the above.

And here's what I've noticed…the ones who came back from that carry a different kind of perspective. A certain level of humility. Because they hit the floor of "I can't do this alone.”

And in that process, they’ve figured it’s not a weakness ... it's a doorway.

Last week I was able to spend a full day with Gary Keller, and the topic was refreshing and not what you’d expect. He was honest about the journey of becoming.

I see far too many ‘successful’ people that are miserable.

External success with internal abandonment ends the same way, every single time….POORLY.

Who Am I?

Without a title, without a description of what you do. Yet, who we are really comes down to our values, what we stand for, and our path to serving others.

4 Quadrants of Who You Are

  1. Self Worth - I am valuable, period. Not because of what I produce. Not because of what I've overcome. Just because I exist. This has and at times continues to be a wrestling match for me..but I’ve made great strides.

  1. Self Identity - Who am I choosing to become? Not what I've achieved, rather who I'm becoming, on purpose.

  1. Self Image - Do I actually see myself as that person yet? Or am I still performing an old version?

  1. Ego - How hard will I fight to become who I choose to be?

The main kind of ego people define is the kind that services our self image. But ego used aimed at building who we are becoming is a powerful concept.

None of these quadrants are good or bad on their own.

BUT….It matters which one you're building your life around.

Here is the question to answer though:

What are you living your life in service of…Your Identity or Image?

Your answer will expose or unravel the truth behind your life.

What is your Pursuit Driven By?

If we’re living our life in service of our IDENTITY, who we’re becoming, and we use ego and self image to serve that pursuit, our impact will be authentic and genuine and coupled with fulfillment.

When we live a life aimed at identity, we focus on who we are becoming. This focuses far more on integrity and alignment.

This is where authenticity becomes a shining light!

Authenticity in this world is a breath of fresh air. We know when someone is being authentic…we may not be able to explain through words, but we certainly feel it.

It’s like gravity, we see the effects of it, but we can’t see it itself.

When living a life aimed at upholding an image, the scorecard we use is based on approval.

Live in service of IMAGE, and you're not really living your life.

You're managing a reputation. Every decision quietly runs through one filter…”What will this make people think of me?” That's not a life, that’s a prison and we both know it.

Gaining approval from others is a recipe that will ensure one thing at the end of our time...REGRET.

Living this way is typically predicated on a lack of Self-Worth. Many will argue with me on this, yet I’ll push back and say that if our self worth is strong, why would we consider even for a second doing something to be validated by someone else?

I just don’t believe we’re honest with ourselves. I wasn’t for over 2 decades.

I’m convinced I’m here to be a compassionate truth teller.

Here's the compassionate part…it's not your fault, you learned to live this way. And it's still your responsibility to unlearn it.

The more courage we build, the more truth we can hold. The more truth we hold, the more aligned our life becomes.

If we want freedom, if we want joy, if we want any sense of peace, taking an honest look at these 4 areas is the path.

It’s not the easy path, it’s the most meaningful one!

Onward and upward!

The Art of Unstoppable Self-Belief - Joe Santagato

Modern Wisdom

This conversation is a reminder that self-belief isn't about pretending you have all the answers, it's about trusting yourself enough to take the next step anyway. Joe Santagato makes the case that authenticity, conviction, and a willingness to embrace criticism are far more valuable than waiting until you feel "ready." The people who build extraordinary lives aren't fearless; they simply refuse to let self-doubt make their decisions.
