5 Things on Patience

ONE QUESTION
What compliments are you giving for the purpose of getting one in return?
ONE THING TO PONDER
The reasons we don’t do something are almost always stronger than why we do.
ONE PERSPECTIVE
Procrastination, lack of patience, and fear of doing the small things day in and day out has caused more failure than lack of resources, skills or money ever will.
We’re all in a rush, we have destination fever.
We sludge through the present moment just to get to that next vacation.
We want the reward without the commitment.
We desire the result without embracing the process.
We want the personal or professional outcome, but not the journey it takes to get there.
We want our business to hit the next level….now.
Patience is a superpower. I believe one of the most undervalued character traits is patience. We have a significant addiction to instant gratification. So, just for fun…

And I also want to put a caveat in here, I’m not suggesting patience as in in-action. I’m suggesting patience in requiring an instant result from actions you take.
Look at any area of your life that matters - relationships, business, health, etc…success doesn’t come from doing big things every once in a while…it’s the small things done consistently.
Small things lead to big things.
It’s common for us to evaluate ourselves based on our intentions, rather than being honest and evaluating our actions - this will lead to average relationships, average (at best) health, average businesses.
Consistency and patience will beat intensity over time, every time
5 Things That Will Happen When You Play the Long Game:
1. You’ll put down unrealistic expectations of yourself and where you should be today. - It doesn't matter when you are today, it's where you're going and who you're becoming.
2. You’ll realize that Grinding isn’t a requirement - Compounding effort will beat sporadic sprints over time every time.
3. Take Notice - You're going to feel the pull to just find the quick wins vs building something meaningful. Don’t allow this to disrupt your consistency and patience.
4. You’ll realize you're running your own race - We're encouraged to run societies race vs our own...run your own and be happy for others on their journey as well.
5. You may compare yourself to others and feel a nudge of 'trying to keep up' with them. That isn’t your path, that is theirs!
Resilience and commitment don't have to require rigidity or hardness, they simply require patience and consistent effort.
I'm not going to win every day in life, every week in life, etc. Yet over the next 30-40 years, I will, and so will you.
Success is being on a journey of challenging ourselves, our strengths, doing scary things, growing, and then being grateful and enjoying the process. I'm not suggesting rainbows and butterflies, yet I am suggesting that fulfillment doesn't show up by taking the 'easy' route.
Enjoy the process, grow as a person, gain wisdom, then give that wisdom away to others. You can't take it with you, but you can leave that wisdom here with others when you're gone.
Take a breath, know that 90% of what you're magnifying today (problems you're facing, who you're upset with, someone wronged you, what you're worried about) actually won't matter in 5 years!
Be patient, stay the course, and trust the growth and outcomes.
Onward and upward
